During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, as part of the debate on the European Council meeting on December 18–19, 2025, Patryk Jaki, chair of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, took the floor. In his speech, the MEP unequivocally emphasized the need for a tough policy toward Russia and tangible support for Ukraine.
As the ECR leader noted, Russia has never honored any agreements and never will; therefore, in his view, the only effective language in relations with Moscow is strength. “Russia understands only strength. Russian assets must be immediately seized and allocated in their entirety to support Ukraine in its war against the aggressor,” emphasized Patryk Jaki.
The PiS MEP also addressed transatlantic relations, pointing out that the problem is not the United States, but the weakness of the European Union resulting from misguided political decisions over the past 20 years. “The United States is not dividing Europe—it is taking advantage of a weak and divided Union that you yourselves have created,” he stressed.
In his speech, Patryk Jaki criticized the current direction of European integration, pointing to the decline in the EU’s share of global GDP, the collapse of industry, and the loss of competitiveness and energy sovereignty. He also drew attention to excessive economic regulation, the Green Deal, and—as he noted—the ideologization of EU policies at the expense of development, innovation, and freedom of speech.
“The EU was supposed to be the world’s largest free-trade zone. Instead, it is preoccupied with excessive regulation, censorship, ideology, and the destruction of its own agriculture,” the MEP stated.
According to Patryk Jaki, Europe can once again become strong and competitive, but this requires a fundamental change of course. “Europe can be great again, but not with those who, over the years, have made it weak, ideological, and a laughingstock,” he concluded.
