The European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR) in the European Parliament today elected PiS MEP Patryk Jaki as its new co-chair. He will lead the group alongside Italian MEP Nicola Procaccini. Patryk Jaki is a political scientist and university lecturer with a Ph.D. in security studies. He serves as vice president of PiS. Jaki is actively involved in politics, both at the national and European levels: he was a member of the Sejm during the 7th and 8th terms from 2011 to 2019; from 2015 to 2019, he served as undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Justice; and since 2019, he has been a member of the European Parliament.
Following his election, Patryk Jaki said: “The ECR Group is the driving force behind reforms in the European Parliament. We are committed to defending Europe as a community of sovereign nations that respects the diversity of its member states. We call for the rejection of harmful trends, such as the centralization of politics, and for the restoration of the freedoms that form the foundation of European identity. We are the heirs to a great tradition: the political freedoms that have been the foundation of Europe for centuries. Today, these freedoms are under attack. As co-chair, I will work to strengthen our political family so that we can defend what truly matters: national democracy, diverse national identities, and the right of citizens to decide their own future.”
