Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the implementation and streamlining of EU internal market rules to strengthen the single market. PiS MEP Piotr Müller spoke during the discussion.
The PiS MEP recalled that the European Commission had promised businesses a “fast track” to growth—simpler laws, less bureaucracy, and greater competitiveness. “And what do we see in this Chamber? The constant creation of new regulations, ever-greater interference in the economy, and regulations demanded primarily by the Left,” he stated.
He noted that further elements of the Green Deal—accelerating climate neutrality by 2040 with a new 90 percent target—are causing European businesses to lose their ability to compete. “And the single market? It sounds wonderful in theory, but in practice it turns into protectionism,” Müller said, citing the example of the transport directive, “which has blocked fair competition from companies in Poland and other Central European countries.”
As he emphasized, if the EU truly wants to compete with the United States and China, the single market “must exist in reality, not just on paper.”
The PiS politician addressed members of the European People’s Party: “Don’t follow the Left’s path. Don’t create more barriers. Don’t stifle entrepreneurship. Let Europe be free and competitive.”
