During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate was held on the Digital Package and the direction in which the European Union should develop regulations in the areas of new technologies and artificial intelligence. Among those participating in the discussion was Piotr Müller, a Member of the European Parliament representing the PiS party, who highlighted the need for bolder deregulatory measures on the part of the European Commission.
In his remarks, the MEP emphasized that although the European Commission is taking the first step toward simplifying digital regulations, the current proposals are—in his opinion—insufficient. “This is good news, but it’s not enough. I urge you to be bolder despite everything,” said Müller.
The MEP noted that if the European Union wants to compete effectively with China and the United States in the areas of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence development, it must create a more investment-friendly environment.
“Today, due to current regulations, many European companies and capital funds are choosing to invest outside the EU because of excessive regulatory risk. If we want to attract foreign capital and mobilize European capital, we must liberalize regulations more boldly,” he noted.
Müller also announced that he would propose amendments to strengthen the deregulatory nature of the Digital Package and expressed hope for broad support across political divides.
“Commissioner, you can count on us to support a more ambitious approach—both as European conservatives and, I hope, other groups in this House,” he added.
The debate on the Digital Package represents a key stage in the legislative process concerning the future of the European digital market and the rules governing the technology sector in the EU.
