Today at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, during a debate titled “The EU’s Response to Ongoing Airspace Violations and Sabotage of Critical Infrastructure in the EU Originating from Russia and Belarus,” organized at the request of the ECR Group, PiS MEPs Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik warned of the growing subversive activities of Russian and Belarusian intelligence services and called on the EU to take decisive action to strengthen the security of member states.
In his speech, Mariusz Kamiński emphasized that Russian intelligence services have been carrying out terrorist-style operations in many member states for months, targeting critical infrastructure, airports, and shopping centers. As he noted, Europe has found itself “one step away from the deaths of our citizens.” Kamiński assessed that Russia’s goal is to create chaos and intimidate European societies, and that the methods used by the Kremlin are a continuation of the Soviet tradition of terrorist activities. He also pointed to the active support Moscow receives from Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.
The MEP called on that the European Commission immediately add Russia and Belarus to the list of high-risk countries for money laundering and terrorist financing, and that, together with the Council, it develop a mechanism to fund compensation for damages caused by acts of sabotage using frozen Russian assets. Among the necessary measures, he also mentioned suspending visa travel, restricting the mobility of Russian diplomats, and closing border crossings with Russia and Belarus. “Only a firm response to acts of terror will be understood by the Kremlin,” he emphasized.
Later in the debate, Maciej Wąsik took the floor, pointing out that Russian and Belarusian intelligence services bear unequivocal responsibility for acts of sabotage on the territory of the EU and Poland. He stressed that European countries must have efficient and well-equipped security services capable of countering sabotage.
Wąsik criticized the actions of EU politicians and institutions that have undermined trust in the security services of member states, including through attacks on the use of the Pegasus software. He called the so-called “Pegasus scandal” and the work of the commission investigating the matter a “Kremlin operation” aimed at disrupting European security structures.
He also mentioned the arrest of Pablo González, alias Paweł Rubcow, pointing to the criticism directed at Poland for its actions against Russian agents.
“The impunity and freedom of action enjoyed by Putin’s intelligence services are also your responsibility. He used you as useful idiots—I hope only as useful idiots. You should be ashamed,” he concluded.
