PiS MEPs: "You have turned a continent that was one of the richest and strongest 50 years ago into an open-air museum"

PiS MEPs: "You have turned a continent that was one of the richest and strongest 50 years ago into an open-air museum"

Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the upcoming EU-China summit, which will be held in Beijing in the second half of July 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations. PiS MEPs Dominik Tarczyński and Tobiasz Bocheński spoke during the discussion.

Dominik Tarczyński stated that “China, Russia, and India are laughing at the EU.” “Do you know why? Because of your eco-madness, said the PiS politician, pointing out that the EU is responsible for 7 percent of global pollution, while China is responsible for over 30 percent. “And Ms. von der Leyen wants to ‘defend’ the planet with our money. That’s madness!” Tarczyński declared, emphasizing that this madness will be stopped “by people of common sense.” “We Republicans, we people of common sense, will reclaim Europe and rebuild it, argued Tarczyński, stating that flawed migration and climate policies stem from communist ideology. “So don’t be like the communists; be like Poland. Soon we’ll give you a new King Sobieski. We’ll reclaim Europe, and we’ll rebuild it, he said.

Tobiasz Bocheński stated that this debate shows that “the esteemed bureaucracy and the esteemed majority in this Chamber have flown off into space without the help of an Elon Musk rocket.” “What are we even discussing? Ladies and gentlemen, in 2005, China’s nominal GDP was $2.3 trillion. Meanwhile, that of the European Union was $13 trillion. We were five times richer than China!” the MEP noted, pointing out that this year, for the first time, China’s nominal GDP will exceed that of the European Union. Bocheński attributes this state of affairs to the absurd economic policies the EU has been pursuing for years, the policies of the Commission under von der Leyen’s leadership, the Green Deal, bureaucracy, and, finally, “the socialism that reigns in this Chamber.” “And because you have turned the European Union into a museum piece—a continent that 100 years ago, 50 years ago, was one of the richest and strongest—Ursula von der Leyen deserves to be dismissed, he emphasized.
