Today in Strasbourg, during the debate opening the European Parliament’s September plenary session, the results of the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture in the EU were discussed. PiS MEP Waldemar Buda spoke on behalf of the ECR Group.
The Polish politician recalled that when a wave of protests swept through the European Union a few months ago, everyone had hoped that the strategic dialogue “would yield the expected results and mark a reversal of the Green Deal.” “Unfortunately, nothing came of it,” he stated. Waldemar Buda noted that most agricultural organizations, including those in Poland, oppose the outcomes of this dialogue and the resulting report. “First and foremost, the dialogue took place without their participation—how is it possible to discuss agriculture without the farmers themselves being involved?” asked the PiS MEP. According to the politician, this is, in fact, “whitewashing the Green Deal.” As he noted, there is no indication that the EU will deviate from its chosen path or turn back “from this wrong direction.” The MEP asked about tangible support for farmers. “There’s talk of limiting production, of limiting payments; but where is the talk of supporting farmers and production?” he pressed. Buda stated that the Green Deal has eliminated industry in Europe, and now the automotive sector is under attack. “Where will food be produced in 10 years? Certainly not in Europe, if we maintain these regulations. In Brazil? In Ukraine? Because it certainly won’t be in Poland—it won’t be profitable here,” he noted. As he pointed out, the only person who understood this and tried to block it—Janusz Wojciechowski—is leaving the European Commission. “We demand real change and a reversal of the Green Deal as it pertains to agricultural policies,” the Polish MEP urged.
