A debate on the situation in Syria took place during a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Anna Fotyga, the shadow rapporteur for the report on this topic, spoke during the debate.
The PiS MEP said that the West had hoped for a positive contribution from Russia to the coalition against ISIS. “Instead, the Kremlin sent General Alexander Dvornikov there, who, like Bashar al-Assad, has been called the ‘butcher of Syria,’” Anna Fotyga recalled. The Russian general later confirmed his brutality in Ukraine by committing further war crimes: first in Mariupol, and later by attacking the train station in Kramatorsk. “Let’s learn from this and never involve criminals in solving important problems,” she urged.
