Elżbieta Rafalska on European cards for people with disabilities

Elżbieta Rafalska on European cards for people with disabilities

During the European Parliament’s final plenary session of this term, a debate was held on the European Disability Card and the European Parking Card for People with Disabilities. PiS MEP Elżbieta Rafalska spoke during the discussion.

Elżbieta Rafalska noted that the European Disability Card and the European Parking Card for People with Disabilities are certainly documents that the disability community has long and patiently awaited. She added that despite changes and improvements to the regulations, people with disabilities still have limited access to education, healthcare, the labor market, employment, culture, and sports.

“The main goal of this directive is to improve mobility and accessibility so that people with disabilities who travel to another member state for a short-term stay of up to three months can benefit from the same provisions available in that member state,” the MEP stated.

Although Elżbieta Rafalska noted that the negotiations were not easy and that many issues stemming from differing legal practices across member states remain unresolved, she emphasized that “the charter opens Europe to people with disabilities.”
