Today in Strasbourg, on the final day of the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the outcomes of the December UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), which was held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). PiS MEP Izabela Kloc spoke during the discussion.
Izabela Kloc stated that although there are voices expressing complacency about the achievements of COP28, it is clear that the world outside the United States and the European Union has a completely different vision for sustaining economic growth. “Drastic climate measures will not only keep the EU isolated but will also impose burdens that are difficult for its citizens to accept and lead to job losses,” she noted. The MEP disagreed with the notion that EU citizens are willing to buy expensive electric cars or pay heating and food bills that are several times higher. “Our planet is not dying at all; it is people who are dying from poverty, and most EU citizens do not want to die for the planet,” the Polish politician pointed out. Kloc drew attention to the conclusions from COP28, which show that climate diplomacy is, in fact, a mirage of Western liberal elites, and “the sooner we understand this, the better for Europe.” “Renewable energy—yes, but realistically and pragmatically. For the people, for their well-being, and for a peaceful, better life,” the MEP concluded.
