PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska, together with Italian MEP Carlo Fidanza, submitted a question to the European Commission regarding media reports about the Commission’s funding of nongovernmental organizations promoting the Green Deal ideology.
“According to shocking findings by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the European Commission secretly funded non-governmental organizations promoting the Green Deal ideology, which lobbied MEPs and influenced their independence. These organizations were even given specific tasks regarding the outcomes of their lobbying efforts,” the parliamentary question states.
ECR MEPs point out that De Telegraaf cites, as an example, a grant of 700,000 euros to steer discussions on the Nature Protection Act and European agriculture in a direction consistent with environmentalist ideals.
“The information is so scandalous that even Commissioner Serafin admitted during a plenary session of Parliament that ‘it was inappropriate for the Commission to sign agreements obligating NGOs to lobby Members of Parliament,’ acknowledging a serious violation of the principles of integrity, transparency, and sincere cooperation,” the authors of the letter state.
“This is yet another massive scandal among the Brussels elite, revealing a complete lack of transparency and massive corruption,” they add. According to ECR MEPs, this also raises serious doubts as to whether similar mechanisms were used to promote ideological agendas and encourage mass migration to the EU
“A parliamentary committee of inquiry should be established in the European Parliament to investigate this scandal,” they urge.
In their letter, the MEPs demand that the European Commission disclose the full list of non-governmental organizations, all funding recipients, the officials overseeing these activities, and the amount of funds allocated to lobbying. Furthermore, they expect the European Commission to take action to investigate any irregularities in this regard, as well as to answer the question of whether the Commission has covertly funded other lobbying initiatives promoting, for example, agricultural or migration policies.
