Jadwiga Wiśniewska Intervenes on the Protection of the European Steel Sector

PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska submitted a question to the European Commission regarding its efforts to protect the steel sector.

"The European steel industry is struggling with access to scrap metal. Most scrap metal ends up in non-EU countries, which are not required to comply with strict environmental standards, allowing them to pay higher prices. Scrap metal is an important raw material for the steel industry because it is cheaper and requires less energy to process than virgin raw materials. Its use is in line with the Commission’s Plan for a Competitive, Low-Carbon Steel Industry, which promotes, among other things, recycling,” — notes the PiS MEP, asking the Commission what specific measures it intends to take to ensure that European steel producers have access to metal and steel scrap.
