Jadwiga Wiśniewska on the Role of Women in Building Peace and Security Around the World

Jadwiga Wiśniewska on the Role of Women in Building Peace and Security Around the World

The 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA80) was held in New York, during which leaders and ministers from member states presented their positions on the most important global challenges over the course of six days. The event was attended by members of the ECR Working Group on Conservative Women Leaders — PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska and Belgian MEP Assita Kanko — who traveled to the United States on a mission to strengthen ties between European and American conservative women and to explore ways to coordinate their efforts.

“The ECR working groups are the driving force behind political progress within our group, strengthening our strategic approach and innovation, said working group chair Assita Kanko. Referring to the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN’s “Women, Peace, and Security” (WPS) agenda, she added: “For us, conservative values such as individual freedom, personal responsibility, and the strengthening of communities are key principles that must be defended when it comes to advancing the women’s agenda.”

“We are committed to building a values-based dialogue among women political leaders in Europe and the Americas, and our working group provides a good platform for this, said Jadwiga Wiśniewska. “In addition to women’s leadership, cooperation and the constructive approach that women bring to discussions are crucial—and these are key elements in building peace and security around the world, the Polish politician noted.
