Małgorzata Gosiewska: “Let’s promote a healthy family model and provide funding for mental health care.”

A debate was held today in Strasbourg to mark World Mental Health Day, which is observed on October 10. The discussion focused on the need to take socioeconomic factors into account in mental health care. PiS MEP Małgorzata Gosiewska spoke during the debate.

The Polish politician emphasized that Europe—and, more recently, Poland as well—has been grappling with a mental health crisis among its citizens for several decades. She pointed out that this is not a marginal problem but a growing issue with tragic consequences, including among children and adolescents.

She reported that research conducted last year shows that one in four Poles struggles with depression. She also cited alarming data from the World Health Organization indicating that the number of suicides has risen by 60 percent since the middle of the last century. “What has happened to cause these statistics to rise so drastically in the postwar world?” she asked.

“In Poland, the government is cutting funding for psychiatry, closing Mental Health Centers, reducing religion and ethics classes, and fighting the Church, while focusing on so-called ‘equality’ policies and success propaganda that masks the ineptitude of financial policy, rising prices, and unemployment, she noted, highlighting this alarming state of affairs.

The MEP unequivocally emphasized that social problems stem from the breakdown of the family and the promotion of liberal models of a person without values, “living for sexual consumption and imaginary issues of gender diversity.” “Let’s promote a healthy model of a loving family and provide funding for healthcare to meet patients’ needs!” Małgorzata Gosiewska urged.
