Today, a debate titled “The European Response to Attacks on Ukraine’s Energy System, Which Have Caused a Humanitarian Crisis,” during which Law and Justice MEP Michał Dworczyk drew attention to the dramatic consequences of the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
The MEP emphasized that the relentless Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system, carried out amid an exceptionally harsh winter, constitute a deliberate strategy targeting the civilian population. The lack of access to electricity and heating in the middle of winter poses a real threat to the lives of millions of people, particularly the elderly, children, and the sick. As he pointed out, the goal of these attacks is to provoke a humanitarian crisis on a massive scale.
Michał Dworczyk also highlighted the tremendous solidarity shown by the Polish public, which has been supporting Ukraine with great dedication since the very first days of the war. As he noted, even in the face of the current crisis, Poles have organized numerous fundraisers, raising tens of millions of euros, earmarked for humanitarian aid and the purchase of power generators. “This equipment goes directly to residents of apartment buildings and homes in Ukraine,” said Dworczyk, noting that the Polish Catholic Church has also actively joined the relief efforts.
The PiS MEP emphasized that Europe cannot limit itself to mere words of condemnation of the Russian attacks. Concrete and urgent action is needed, including support for the reconstruction and protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, increased humanitarian aid, and further tightening of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“Solidarity with Ukraine during this difficult time is not merely a gesture of goodwill. It is a prerequisite for the stability and credibility of the European Union as a community of values and responsibility,” Michał Dworczyk emphasized in his speech.
