During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate was held titled “Persistent Problems Related to Antisemitism in Europe and Other Forms of Hate Speech and Hate Crimes.” ECR MEP Patryk Jaki spoke during the discussion.
Patryk Jaki addressed the situation in Poland following the change in government. “It’s great that you’re talking about hatred, but if you’re looking for it, perhaps you should take a look in your own backyard—at Tusk,” he remarked. He recalled the words of Poland’s current prime minister, who announced—using terminology from Hitler’s era—that he would “give his rivals a Nuremberg.” “Recently, at Campus Polska Przyszłości—an event for young people organized by Tusk’s party—people sang that millions of people with whom they disagree should be destroyed and expelled from the country,” the MEP reported. Patryk Jaki pointed out that Tusk had forcibly taken over institutions whose terms of office were meant to guarantee their independence and was arresting opposition lawmakers without respecting international immunities, adding that the last person to do so was Putin. “He sent armed police after judges who were a thorn in his side, threatens the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court with imprisonment, and fails to enforce the rulings of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Tribunal,” the Polish politician continued. He emphasized that the current Polish prime minister “has stated quite explicitly that he has broken the law and will continue to do so.” “Tusk is doing exactly what the leader of any criminal group does when he feels he has impunity—impunity that you guarantee him,” —stated the ECR MEP. Patryk Jaki emphasized that he does not expect the European Union to take any action on this matter, as it has no jurisdiction in this case. “I would like the whole world to hear about these double standards and the despicable acts for which you bear joint responsibility,” the politician noted, referring to various forms of hate speech and hate crimes that have recently been occurring in Poland.
