On the second day of the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, a report on the future of European competitiveness was presented. Following a speech by the report’s author, Mario Draghi, an exchange of views took place. Piotr Müller, a PiS MEP, spoke during the discussion.
Piotr Müller stated that Europe is at a crossroads. He noted that today, Europe faces the choice between one path of economic development or heading toward the abyss. “Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki pointed out many months ago that Europe is on the wrong path when it comes to economic development, and today Mr. Draghi’s report fully confirms this,” the PiS MEP recalled. The politician pointed out that recently, only 6 percent of global investment in the cutting-edge field of artificial intelligence has gone to the European Union. As he noted, this shows that Europe is very unattractive when it comes to modern technologies and economic development. “Europe needs immediate changes, but this requires less bureaucracy, greater freedom for entrepreneurs, a genuine single market free of protectionism, and, above all, a fundamental overhaul of the Green Deal and the ETS system, which generates enormous energy costs,” — Piotr Müller pointed out. He stated that “if we don’t do this and don’t act today, the United States and the Asian tigers will quickly outpace us economically, and Europe will, unfortunately, become an economic museum.”
