Today in Strasbourg, on the second day of the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the multiannual financial framework for 2021–2027. PiS MEPs Bogdan Rzońca and Izabela Kloc spoke during the discussion.
Bogdan Rzońca emphasized that recent events, such as the war in Ukraine and runaway inflation, have highlighted the need for more rational management of the EU budget. “We—as Poles and as members of the ECR—warned about Putin, but no one listened to us. Inflation could also have been predicted, because economic crises simply happen,” he recalled. The MEP stated that the current leaders of the European Union have recklessly indebted the Union, which must now find “fresh money.” Among the amounts agreed upon as part of the revision of the multiannual financial framework, he cited 33 billion euros of “new debt” that the EU will have to incur for Ukraine on financial markets, a reallocation of 10 billion euros from existing funds, and 21 billion euros as an additional contribution from EU member states. “We’re putting out fires when we should be preventing them,” said Rzońca. He added that the current EU elites, who led the Union into this crisis, want to continue governing it in the same way—which certainly pleases Putin. “More Euro-realism, more Euro-economics, and less of various ideologies, such as the ‘green religion’ or gender ideology,” the Polish politician urged.
Izabela Kloc said that Poland is a striking example of how the EU budget is used to blackmail sovereign governments and to subsidize governments that blindly obey the EU headquarters. “Two years after the Kremlin’s aggression, the value of Polish military aid provided to Ukraine has exceeded 3.5 billion euros. This is thanks to the previous Law and Justice government, the government of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, which Brussels—in accordance with MEP Barley’s prescription—decided to ‘starve financially,’” the MEP stated. Referring to the current situation in Poland, including the unlawful methods of political struggle employed by Donald Tusk’s government, she noted with surprise that the European Commission “approves of these methods and, in this context, has the audacity to speak of restoring the rule of law.”
The Polish politician also drew attention to the ongoing “mutual visits of friendship and support,” which are reminiscent of the days when secretaries from Moscow used to visit. “Today, Brussels is reaching record levels of cynical hypocrisy. You have lost all credibility, not only among farmers. Soon you will also lose power,” the MEP warned.
